This is an incredibly awesome fan that can rotate vertically at the same time the circular base rotates horizontally. The air movement is spectacular (especially on the highest speed.) It can be set to rotate both ways, one way, or not at all. There are 4 speeds: QUIET which is a light breeze effect with virtually no noise, 1. which is a nice air flow, 2. a high air effect and 3. I call turbo which is a bit loud but worth the extreme air movement. I have not used the timer functions since my fans run most of the time (I live in the Mojave Desert area of Southern California which is hitting highs of 107 lately.) There is also a remote control which is a great bonus and I use it most of the time. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that there are no instructions included on how to install the battery for the remote. It's not hard, just tricky. On the back bottom of the remote there is a long horizontal slot and 2 short vertical slots. You need to push one or both of the vertical slots INWARD toward the horizontal slot to release the tray that will then pull OUTWARD from that horizontal slot. I hope that helps others understand how to do this. Get the battery in and sit back to enjoy this fan. I paid $34 (seller Amazon) for my first fan. Shortly after I found it again by another seller, Moderna Housewares, for $18 so I ordered another one! That deal is no longer available but if it comes back, I will be ordering more for Christmas Gifts! Even at the $34 price this is an excellent fan for a decent price. If you're looking for a quality tabletop fan with some really nice extra features, look no further. You found it. Now buy it!Should note 2 things:1. Power cord is a bit short in length and this fan should NOT be used with an extension cord OR power strip.2. DO NOT try to move the fan manually (tempting when it arrives packaged with the fan pointing straight up!) All adjustments MUST be made with the remote or by the buttons on the base.Update: 6 months later and both of my fans still work great! I bought one for my dad and he loved it so much he bought one for my brother. Then my mom wanted one too. Also purchased 2 more for my stepsons for Christmas. I couldn't be happier with this fan (as I feel it's breeze effect on me right now!!!!)
