Well, the bird songs are great. My parents bought me my first one and I have been hooked ever since, maybe 10 years. The birds sound authentic and chirp on the hour except when the room is dark. The clock keeps great time too. The instructions are clear and the clock is easy to set up so that “even a Caveman could do it”. The wood frame adds some elegance to the clock. I see myself having one of these singing bird clocks forever. (We have birds in our yard too and when they hear the birds from the clock chirp, one or two birds will fly to our patio table and chirp back. It is a cute sight). I lost the bird singing feature in my first click when the light sensor went bad. The clock continues to work but the birds no longer chirp which is a disappointing consolation. My parents had given me the first one and It had lasted about 8 years before the light sensor failed. This was the last gift from my Mom before she died and I wanted a fully working and bird chirping clock as a keepsake forever. So, I bought another one of the same 13” diameter size but with a plastic case (cheaper cost) and replaced the internal clock of it into the wood case of the one my Mom gave me. This 2nd one lasted only about 2 years until birds quit chirping after another light sensor failure. The Test Button works but the sensor doesn't so the birds don’t chirp on the hour anymore. So, this is the reason for this 2nd purchase of another clock to replace in the wood frame (case) in the one my Mom gave me originally. I am really hoping I do not have to buy another one for the 3rd time for at least 5-6 years. My only issues with this clock is with the light sensor. I would prefer it not be on the clock or at least have the ability to turn it off. I could care less with the birds chirping all night; it want wakes us. If or when the light sensor goes bad, the chirping birds will cease to chirp and you are reduced to the likes of an expensive standard clock. Without the birds chirping, the clock is not worth $39 or $49. The birds chirping is the entire reason for the clock, therefore this feature needs to endure. The “light sensor” is problematic and has unacceptable consequences on the bird chirping feature when the sensor goes bad. The light sensor is too big of a risk to have on the clock. It would be better if it could be turned off or removed. (Just know, until the manufacturer fixes this light sensor issue, the clock bird singing feature may be short lived. If important to you, you might consider an extended warranty, if available or just plan on replacing the clock in 2-3 years). Lastly, when Amazon shipped this clock they replaced the manufacturer’s box with their box which eliminated the “bird habitat information” that is contained on the manufacturer’s box. If Amazon wanted to use their box, they should have put the manufacturer’s box INSIDE the Amazon box and not replaced it. Luckily, I still had the manufacturer’s box from a prior purchase. In spite of this packing snafu and the short duration of the bird chirping feature, I still rate the clock 5 stars and will continue to purchase them as there are no others of better quality in the marketplace and the “bird chirping” feature on the hour is a special and enjoyable feature in a clock to have.
